About the Padded Locking Collar
A padded nylon dog collar with a locking design for everyday walks. Choose it by the exact collar’s neck adjustment range and fastening instructions, not by breed or a size letter alone.
Fit & sizing
Measure at the intended collar position. Confirm the selected option’s neck range and collar width with PawFurvia before ordering if these are not shown. Follow the model’s measuring instructions rather than automatically adding extra centimetres.

Materials & fastening
The product is listed as nylon with padding and a locking design. Padding and a buckle lock serve different purposes: neither establishes an escape-proof fit. Ask us to confirm the closure mechanism and width for your selected option.
Use & care
Check the closure, stitching and fit before each walk. Follow the supplied care instructions; wipe clean with a damp cloth and air dry as listed for this product. Stop using damaged gear.
Common questions
Will a locking collar prevent my dog from slipping out?
Do not rely on the lock alone. Fit and the model’s construction both matter, and we do not claim this collar is escape-proof.
Is padding enough for a dog that pulls?
Padding alone does not establish suitability for strong pulling. If you need help selecting walking equipment, speak with a qualified trainer; ask your veterinarian about neck discomfort.

Padded dog collars: a quick buying guide
A padded dog collar puts a soft layer between the webbing and your dog's neck. That matters most for dogs that wear a collar all day, dogs with short or thin coats, and dogs that pull or lunge now and then. Padding does not change how a collar fits, though — the size still has to be right.
Padded collar vs other collar types
| Collar type | How it closes | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Padded locking collar (this one) | Buckle with a locking design | Daily wear, dogs that have backed out of a collar before, short-coated dogs | Still needs a two-finger fit; check the lock before each walk |
| Standard flat buckle collar | Plastic or metal buckle | ID tags, calm walkers | Thin webbing can rub; easier to slip if fitted loosely |
| Martingale (limited-slip) | Tightens slightly when the dog pulls back | Narrow-headed breeds such as greyhounds and whippets | Should not be left on unsupervised |
| Slip-on (no buckle) collar | Slides over the head | Quick on and off | Can come off as easily as it goes on |
| Harness | Clips around chest and shoulders | Dogs that pull, small breeds, hiking | Keep a collar for ID tags |
How to measure for a padded collar
- Wrap a soft tape around the middle of the neck, where the collar will sit.
- Add room for two fingers between tape and neck — that is your target collar size.
- Compare it with the neck range of the exact option you choose. A size letter alone does not confirm fit.
- After fitting, try to slide the collar over the ears. If it slips off, tighten one notch.

Signs the collar fits
- Two fingers slide under it flat, but the collar does not turn freely around the neck.
- No redness or flattened fur after the first walk.
- Your dog cannot back out of it when you gently pull the leash forward.
If your dog pulls hard or has a sensitive throat, walk on a harness and keep the collar for ID. See dog harness vs collar and our dog harnesses.

Padded dog collar FAQ
Are padded dog collars better than regular collars?
For most dogs the padding simply makes all-day wear softer and reduces rubbing, especially on short coats. It does not replace a correct fit: measure the neck and leave room for two fingers.
Will a padded locking collar stop my dog slipping out?
A locking design and a snug two-finger fit help reduce slip-outs. For dogs whose head is narrower than their neck, a martingale or a well-fitted harness is often the more secure choice.
How tight should a padded dog collar be?
You should be able to slide two fingers under the collar, and it should not pass over your dog's ears when you pull it forward.
Can my dog wear a padded collar all day?
Yes, as long as it fits and you check the neck regularly. Remove it for crate time and unsupervised play, and wipe it clean and let it dry after wet walks.
Collar or harness for walks?
A collar is ideal for ID tags and calm walkers. Dogs that pull, small breeds and hiking dogs are usually more comfortable on a harness.
