Coupling dogs: how a leash coupler works
A leash coupler is a short Y-shaped lead: each dog clips to one end, and the middle ring clips to your normal leash. You hold one handle instead of two, so the leashes stop twisting around each other.

How to set up and start
- Clip each coupler end to a harness (gentler than a collar when the dogs bump into each other).
- Clip your main leash to the centre ring.
- Practise in a quiet place first and reward both dogs for walking side by side.
- Unclip the coupler for sniff breaks, play and meeting other dogs.
Skip the coupler if one dog is much bigger, much faster, reactive or still learning to walk on a loose leash — use two leashes until both dogs walk well alone.

Is a leash coupler safe?
Yes for two calm dogs of similar size and pace, clipped to harnesses and supervised. It is not a good fit for reactive dogs or very different sizes.
Should a coupler go on a collar or a harness?
A harness is the safer choice, because the dogs can pull against each other sideways.
